The play of light and pearly iridescence seen in Moonstone is called adularescence, and its clarity ranges from transparent to opaque. A naturally occurring mineral belonging to the Feldspar family, Moonstone is found most prominently in Sri Lanka and India, occurring as a result of orthoclase and albite solidifying from magma to stone. Moonstone ranks 6-6.5 on the MOHs hardness scale and is a birthstone of June.
