Gemstone: Amethyst – The violet stone of peace. Shining a spectrum of purple tones, Amethyst restores deep balance. The purple quartz is heralded to relieve old wounds, clear the mind and provide solace to the soul. A member of the quartz family, the gemstone’s purple hue is caused by the presence of tiny impurities of iron which are altered by natural radiation. The deep violet varieties of the gemstone are found in Africa, and softer lilac hues originate in Brazil. Amethyst ranks 7 on the Mohs hardness scale and is the birthstone of February.
